Goodbye BTD
Bucket The Dog, or BTD as I often call her, has passed. She leaves behind the Fletcher family, her friends, and all the lives she touched over her many years.
I met Bucket in 2005. The Fletchers brought her over to my apartment to say hello. First thing I noticed was that her head was too big for her body. This is actually why the Fletchers named her Bucket. She was a bit skittish when we first met, but she took immediate interest in the cats I lived with, Batman and Jason Priestly. Batman and JP often enjoyed long frantic wrestling matches all over the apartment, sometimes even on top of me. Well, I guess Bucket had heard of these wrestling matches because she jumped in right away, chasing the two cats all over the apartment. Eventually, the wrestling ended when Bucket chased the cats under the bed and got stuck. Her dang bucket head couldn’t slide back out! We heard her cries of captivity, rescued her, and gave the two cats a talking to.
Bucket went on to many adventures afterwards. She joined a pack of two others, Juneau and Shaggy. She saw the birth of two more Fletchers and watched over them. She even overcame a kick to the face from an asshole horse, and came back stronger than ever.
She enjoyed long naps in the sun, or on the bed, or on the couch. Pretty much wherever was available. And she loved sharing meals with her family.
Over 17 years she has been a regular part of our lives and we love her. We will miss her and grieve this loss. However, this love we feel will be a warm reminder of the joy she shared. And I hope that never fades.
Goodbye BTD.
